So I've figured out how to cross post from here to LJ, but not from LJ to here. So I do apologize if there is any sort of double posting.

That said, fic recs! A whole bunch of them all at once because I lack the patience to do them one by one today. And dude, there are like twenty of them here.

Stargate SG-1
Aggravated Destruction of Property by Kalquessa. JONAS AND VALA. TOGETHER. IN A JAIL CELL. Nuff said. Happy fic that makes me happy.

Nocturne by purple shrub. I can't actually remember what happens in this one, so I'm mooching the authors note and summary. SPOILERS : Hmm…this takes place both 1st season, before Fire and Water, and 7th season, post Fallen. I’m told familiarity with Meridian is needed to understand it.
SUMMARY : Teal’c/Daniel friendship

Wherever We Go by gingasaur. "You should just write about Jonas and Vala going on a picnic." She was joking. And yet here we are. In which Jonas is trying to be angry and wallow in self pity in peace, but Vala won't let him.

Stargate Atlantis
Walk Beside Me by Rachel500. When a diplomatic mission is interrupted by the Wraith, Sam and Teyla wrestle their personal demons to work together and find a way back to Atlantis. In other words, Sam and Teyla being awesome and bad ass. And oh, hey, bonding a bit along the way, too.

Dr. Who
The Tragic Demise of the Psychic Paper by alsodinosaurs. Title pretty much covers it. Fluff.

well, you know by roachpatrol. Series 1 AU, It is July in New New York, 099: the dawning of the latest and greatest era of beauty, freedom, truth and love, but mostly love. And when it comes to Rose Tyler and Jack Harkness, a lot of beauty. John Smith is so hopelessly in love with his two best friends that sometimes he thinks he could just about explode. But he's no one special. Not really. Lyrical and slightly melancholy, but lovely in it's own way.

Handyman by pluto. Donna is breaking. Shaun can't help but try and help fix her.

White Collar
A Wake-up Call a Mean Ragout by china-shop. Another one I can't recall much of what happened, but there is Neal being sneaky and Peter being oblivious. And El making a mean ragout.

No, and here's a dozen reasons why by china-shop. Peter on why it would be a Bad Idea, but who is tempted to take the risk anyway.

Nothing Says 'Feel Better Soon' Like Grand Theft Larceny by OnYourMark. On why you do NOT mess with Elizabeth Burk, because "dirty" doesn't even scratch the surface when Neal Caffrey really wants to play ball.

Strays by sahiya. Neal and some kittens. Yes, KITTENS. And NEAL. I'm not sure it is possible to get any more adorable than that. Fluff of the fluffiest.

Vorkosigan Saga
The Stuff That Dreams by dsudis. Bad dreams and having someone to hold onto.

Vorkosigan Sousleau by Philomytha. "I freely admit that I don't know much about boats," Cordelia said, treading water, "but I'm pretty sure the sail is supposed to be pointing up." Aral and Cordelia fluff

Crossovers
Here Tomorrow, Gone Today by Tari Roo. SGA/SPN Crossover AU. One shot. The world ended and not how any hunter would have imagined. A BSG-style fleet of refugees on the run, with Dean Winchester aboard the Hammond. Shep POV.

Quick Like a Bunny by innie-darling. Sherlock/Queer Eye For The Straight Guy. I kid you not. Nuff said.

And stick a fork in me, I'm done.

Mobius and The Sea Maid, Rewritten by canaana. Another AU for The Stolen Earth/Journey's End. So much more than a "fix it" fic.
In which Donna does not end up as foam upon the waves. This is the last ten minutes of JE gone distinctly AU

More in the series here

One more for the road because I heart anything Doctor and Donna like woah (BFF!)

Gingerbread by _thirty2flavors. Because I loved it so much I went all Fangirl at the author in the comments, which is not something I do lightly. Yet another story to feed my Doctor/Donna BEST FRIENDS FOREVER love. Also, there is a nice long sequel that I shall save for tomorrow, and according to seanachais (where I got the initial link from), there are several more in that universe as well. :D
rensong: (Independence Day)
Dirty Laundry by Asano. In which doing a simple bit of laundry has never been quite so challenging.
rensong: (sleepy kitty)
The Man With No Name by Frostfyre7, Firefly/Doctor Who crossover in which the Doctor - still lonely and aching a bit after the events of "Runaway Bride" - finds himself in the Firefly universe, a few months after The Big Damn Movie. The TARDIS tends to put him where he's needed (or maybe it's where he needs to be, who knows), so there are Events with alien tech that should not be in that century and, as both the Doctor and the Firefly crew don't ever have to go looking for trouble... well, what results is a Long And Plotty action/adventure story that is totally worth reading even if I can't remember everything that happens in it. Also, I admit, I am totally a sucker for any story where the Doctor and River get to interact, an opportunity that this story offers quite readily.

It has been awhile, and I admit I haven't read as *much* fic as I once might have to fill the time (I've been reading actual books instead. Not that I'm a bibliophile or anything. ;) ), but I still seem to have acquired quite a few fic recommendations in my "fic recs" folder. I figure I should probably purge them, otherwise the prospect will just get more daunting and I'll find an excuse to put it off even more, which will only cause the list to increase further and get even *more* daunting, and alas, I am trapped in my own Catch-22.

So, next few entries will be fic recs.

Doctor Who - Not the Last by nostalgia. In which Donna demands she be turned into a Time Lord instead of having her memories wiped. Which means the Doctor is no longer the last of his kind and, point in fact, the only other of his kind is female, which puts him in a bit of a pickle as far as biology goes. As someone who is very much *not* on the Doctor/Donna bandwagon, I almost didn't read this one, but I was curious enough to give it a shot. Also, who am I to resist the call of Crack Doctor Who fic?

This morning, after getting bombarded by all the Royal Wedding news and photos, I posted on Facebook: "Amusing thought of the day - the Doctor at the Royal Wedding. Come on, you know he'd be invited, even if the invite would come along with a polite note asking him not to attend in hopes of *not* attracting trouble on that special day."

This afternoon, through a friend of a friend, I give you this:

Best. Photoshop. EVAH! Or maybe I'm just a humgo dork.

I am at work hyperlinking photos to a point shapefile of signs (isn't GIS language *fun*!), and I run across one that says "Shotguns and Archery Only".

It is, of course, a sign designating what kind of hunting is allowed in that particular area, but it took me a second for that logical thought to wiggle its way through my brain. Before it did, my decidedly illogical brain immediately jumped to "Shotgun wedding!" and then took a rather unexplained detour into - I kid you not - a Warehouse 13/4th Doctor Who/Hitchhikers Guide mesh in my head.

The resulting visual? 4th Doctor and Arthur Dent attending a shotgun wedding of Pete and Myka, and at the end everyone shoots arrows (instead of shotguns) at the Vorgon ships descending into the atmosphere*.

Really brain? Really?

Of course, I suppose I can partially blame the bizarreness on the Doctor Who/Hitchhikers Guide fic I just read, and perhaps to a lesser degree the Warehouse 13 story I ran across (but did not read) on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van earlier today, but...

There is still not enough WTF in the world.

*Write the prompt... I dare you. ::evil laughter::

Office Work by [livejournal.com profile] entangled_now. Just some cute Doctor and Donna fluff that is too short to summarize without pretty much telling the whole story
rensong: (sleepy kitty)
Which most of you have probably seen already, but I'm going to cut it anyway just in case of Spoiler Fear

video undere here )

My reaction? "Um... Didn't they already do that on Eureka?" Though I suppose this might qualify as less science woops and more evil plague. Or something.

Also, this isn't really a spoiler, but it is a long term casting change ) Sometimes, I really am that shallow.

On an entirely different note, POSTER IS FINISHED! Well, mostly - still needs to be proof-read and looked over by the prof, and I have to add one more bibliography reference, but until I hear back from Sam? I am done! For now, at least. I even made it home before 4 today! For the first time since last Monday! Yay!
rensong: (Independence Day)
Firey Death by [livejournal.com profile] orange_crushed. In which the Doctor and Rose take the Master... Hostage? Kidnap him? Whatever you want to call it, it involves the Master being an unwilling passenger on the TARDIS while the Doctor and Rose try and... um... Yeah, I have no clue what they have in mind, actually, but the result is both entertaining and at times hilarious (there is a Holy Waterslide, people! Crack - it does the body good).
Link to the latest installment that I know of, with the previous two stories linked at the top of the page.

Another one in generally the same universe - Present and Accounted For

Distract Them. Ianto plays the distraction. He does it very well. Been awhile since I read this, but I think it's pretty fluffy.
rensong: (not so far away)
Alright, tired of trying to figure out my own summaries, so I'm just stealing the authors' from now on.

Footsteps in the Sand by Corona. It started at the end, because time had always had a peculiar fondness for the big finish; the twist ending and the dramatic rebirth. A chance meeting, and suddenly Donna remembers.
The first part of this is just pretty - lyrical and flowing and *pretty*, with the ice and the reaching out struggling to find something to hold on to. That feeling kind of sticks around throughout, but towards the end we get a bit more of the banter and snark and the Donna we all know and love, even if she isn't exactly the Donna we know and love. I can't say much more without ruining the ending, but there is much more awesomeness and banter when she runs into... um... We'll just call him a fellow time anomaly.

The only bad is that the story doesn't last any longer.
rensong: (not so far away)
Flexible Concept of Tomorrow by [livejournal.com profile] finisterre, or, as the author states, Five Times Donna Noble Remembers Meeting That Bloke With The Stupid Name (And One Time She Doesn't) or Five Times Fox Mulder Remembers Meeting That Other Redhead (And One Time He Doesn't). This is Mulder and Donna, taking turns saving each other's life (in more ways than one). Nuff said.
(Also, awesome fix-it in the last part for the fourth season finale)
rensong: (not so far away)
All the Kings Horses by RobinC. The Doctor takes Donna to visit one of the planets allied with Gallifrey during the Time War. There is prophecy and trouble and scary memory monsters. All in all, just another day in the Doctor Who 'verse.
rensong: (not so far away)
Rebuilding a Life by [livejournal.com profile] settiai. This is the authors attempt to merge book-Who and TV-Who, and they manage to pull it off rather well. I've never read any of the books, but a lot of the differences are explained in the story, so it was still pretty easy to follow.

Anyway, a very brief summary - this is Fitz after the Doctor leaves him behind. He wakes up in an ally in DC in 2002, where Tony DiNozzo finds him, and he spends the next 6 years trying to build a new life in a new time, eventually developing quite a rapport with Tony and the rest of the NCIS team. The story is alternately amusing, endearing, and every so slightly painful at times, offering an incredible outside POV of the events that happen throughout the new series Doctor Who and NCIS.

Also, I just found a bigger version here (40,000 words instead of 15,000). Nice.
rensong: (Independence Day)
Displacement by [livejournal.com profile] michelel72. In which McKay finally gets some help saving the world thanks to one Donna Noble, Temp. It is another "fix" fic for the events of the Doctor Who season 4 finale that I'm still extremely ticked off about, so if that isn't you're thing, might want to pass this one up. I, however, loved this story.

Last one for the evening.

Let's Forget We're Running (Out of Time) by zoicite. When it comes to the latest Doctor Who season finale, there are two group opinions - those who loved it, and those who hated it. I, myself, am firmly on the side of the "OMG, LOVED IT" fence - but lets face it, the ending with Donna kind of sucked no matter which way you look at it.

This fic? Makes it all better. It takes a bit, and there isn't really a shortage of angst (nothing too horrible - I am, after all, reccing it. ;) ) before we get there, but the end is totally worth it. Donna has seriously been my favorite companion so far, and I was downright miffed with what they did to her. If the writers fail to see what a HUGE, AWESOME PLOT OPPORTUNITY she is for future episodes and don't bring her back, this fic is totally my new cannon.

Five Things Methos Said to the Doctor by Jinxed Wood. Methos has lived for thousands of years. He was bound to catch the Doctor's attention eventually. Oh, and there are Deleks show up, too.
“Oh, there’s plenty I haven’t told you but as you don’t exactly have a century to spare… actually, that’s not true, is it?” A small smile appeared on his lips, softening his face. “Do you realize how rarely I meet someone who’s actually *older* than me?

Tempus Fugit. Sam meets an interesting character at an Astrophysics conference.

Still dealing with all this Anxiety Stuff that I have little to no control over, but at least I feel less "Oh my god oh my god" freaking and more "this sucks" accepting

In other old news but I thought I would share anyway, The 11th Doctor has been chosen. Don't click unless you want to see a rather large casting spoiler for Doctor Who's next season.
rensong: (sleepy kitty)
I have finally seen the Doctor Who Christmas Special. Much more cheerful then the last few, which I highly appreciate. And the last scene made me wonder if the Doctor ever accidentally locked his keys inside the TARDIS. You think the Sonic Screwdriver would work on TARDIS's door? Which then made me wonder if she ever got ticked at him for some reason or another and locked him out on purpose.

This is my brain. It makes me wonder sometimes, too. (hee, accidental joke)

Wow... Mother Nature is still PMSing but good. Temperatures have dropped almost 15 degrees since this morning (but then went back up slightly, so that's something I suppose) and our driveway and road are nothing but a slushy, soggy, soon-to-be-icy mess. I'm still hoping for a travel window to open up tomorrow afternoon so I can get back to Point for the Girls Night In. *However*, in case that does not happen, I want to let all you interested parties know that Girls Night In is still a GO! I have my computer with me, and my parents have wireless, so the internet thing shouldn't be a problem. However, I didn't have enough space to pack all three of the movies in my overnight bag, so Serenity is the only one I have with me at the moment. I still plan on doing the chat no matter what movies are being watched, however, but Serenity is the one I'll have handy.

Also, because I'm at my parents house, I do have a few more DVD options. I have no idea if anyone else has these, but I figured I would list them none the less just in case.

additional movies under the cut )

So, there you go. Whether I manage to get back to Point tomorrow or not, there will still be Chattage, cause dammit, I miss you all.

Oh, yeah... I suppose I could mention that I also have the Doctor Who Christmas Special downloaded, so if anyone is in a Who mood instead of a Movie mood, I don't think it would be too difficult to put that one up for grabs, either. I haven't tried it yet, but you should be able to watch it online here: http://www.watchdoctorwho.org/season-4/doctor-christmas-special-2008-doctor (link courtesy of my good friend Dan - thanks, Dan!)

Also, if you all don't mind, I might invite Dustin and Dan in, too, cause they're both pretty big Firefly fans. Also, they are bored, and I figure the more the merrier. And I've warned them on how dirty minded we can get. ;)
rensong: (not so far away)
In With A Chance Mireille. Jack and the Doctor trapped in a collapsed building together. Considering it's Jack, there is blatant flirting and considering its the Doctor, also lots of snark.
"My shoulder is bleeding," Jack pointed out, "not my ankle. I'd like to offer you a practical demonstration of human anatomy, but..." He paused. "No, that's all; no 'but.'"
