Either my allergies are acting up (and being all persistent about it and stuff) for the first time since I moved out here - in which case, I have no idea what the heck is setting them off - or my body is making up for being disgustingly healthy for over three years all at once and I have a cold. I am leaning more toward allergies because aside from a sore, scratchy throat and a partially clogged nose, I feel fine. It is still incredibly annoying, though.

In other news, I have finally posted pictures from when I went down to visit Cristin in Vegas back in January on Facebook, and I am in the process of posting photos from Portland this past weekend (zoo is up, Multnomah Falls is uploading now), so feel free to check them out if you so desire. If you can't access the FB albums, let me know, and I'll try and upload some of the highlights to Photobucket to share.

Uploaded my Denver photos to Facebook. Here is the link if anyone missed it on there. Otherwise, I think you all who actually read my LJ also have FB and can thus see it. If I missed someone, though, let me know and I'll add a few of the highlights to Photobucket so I can embed them on my LJ as well.

Alrighty, so I think I am now totally ready to go with my Abby costume.

pictures under the cut )

So - ignoring the messy hair (I had just gotten out of the shower), all the unfolded laundry in the background, and the fact that I am no where near as skinny as Abby - my question to you dear readers (all four of you! ;) ) is... Which stockings should I wear? The Black Spiderweb Tights or the Purple And Black Stripy Spider Stockings?

(Also, wow, all the weight I've gained this past year or so is glaringly obvious in both of those pictures. Ah, the joys of riding a desk all day...)

An hour and 15 minutes is A Good Nap for me. Feeling kinda blergy with what I assume is allergies, even if they've so far only manifested themselves as lots of sneezing, I decided to take one today. An hour and 15 minutes later, give or take, I woke up, and I should've stayed that way. But, no, I decided "Just a few more minutes!", fell back asleep, had a dream about driving around in a really nice old car (I almost want to stay it was my mom's old cranberry red Cutlass Colonnade) with my brothers (who reminded me more of Sam and Dean Winchester than my actual older brothers) buying groceries and ... other stuff I can't remember, and meeting our parents at my dad's old store in Marshfield, where I re-potted a plant using one of the ash buckets for cleaning out the fireplaces. There is more, but it falls into Girly TMI )

And then I woke up again about an hour and a half later, and now I am all tired and stuff because a did not need a three hour nap. Hour and a half, reasonable, and I feel more awake after I get through with it. Three hours? Too much of a good thing, and I usually feel more tired after one than when I went to take a nap in the first place.

Also, now I probably won't sleep tonight. On the one hand, woo, I'll be awake for the Castle premier at 10! On the other hand, I probably won't fall asleep until 2 am, then I'll wake up at 4, and be out of bed by 5:30 and spend the day running on two hours of sleep. Tomorrow should be fun.

ETA 4:29, because it is a car worth oogling - a picture of my mom's old cutlass, with my two brothers - Ben in the foreground, Gus in the background - raking pine needles down at my Gramma and Grampa's when they were wee and small (Grampa Lindow is in the back, leaning against the hood with the beach ball). I can't remember what year the car was, and I only remember it in the vaguest sense (I have more clear memories of the beige 82 Cutlass she got after, which was less of a muscle car, but still had it's fair share of horsepower), but both my parents still remember it quite fondly and have told lots of stories.

I uploaded some of the highlights from the camping trip we went on this weekend to Mt. Rainier and Mt. Saint Helen's to my Photobucket account. However, even the "highlights" encompass some 60+ photos, so I'm just going to link any interested parties to the web address.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v314/rensong/Mount%20Rainier%20and%20Mount%20St%20Helens/

It went and uploaded all the pictures in the reverse order, so the "first day" is actually the last photograph in the album, but I'm too lazy to go through and rearrange them all. So, just start with that one and click "previous" to get them in chronological order. :)

Will probably try and upload some of the highlights into Photobucket as well for all you who don't use Facebook, but for now, I am off in search of lunch.

Yesterday was awesome. Went out to one of the HMUs I'll be mapping and I got to drive around the wilderness in one of these (or a country-cousin of the Gator - co-workers call them Frogs, but they look pretty much the same except there is no screen between the cab and the bed, and the bed itself might be a tiny bit shorter) for two hours. While I was gathering some data, I saw a coyote run across the trail about 20 feet in front of me, and at least a half a dozen hawks birds of pray of various species flying around overhead.

Also, back at the office, there is a pair of ospreys setting up shop in one of the nesting platforms I can see out my office window.

click for photos )

Today was less with the awesome - it was rainy and cold and windy, so I actually stayed at the office and did the computer thing. Spent about two or three hours digitizing the irrigation lines at all of the HMUs I'll be working at, had lunch, checked over the pick-up truck I'll be driving around (an old 86 Dodge, four speed) and marked down any damage that was already there so I wouldn't be blamed for it (not that there really was much - a few dents and dings, but the old boy is in pretty good shape for a vehicle that is almost 25 years old), and made a very very tentative schedule of the next few weeks for first off gathering the necessary data, and then putting it into the computer. Around 2:15, though, I just got bored - there really is not much I can do until the software issues we're *still* ironing out get taken care of, so pretty much everything I did today was simply to keep me busy and make it look like I was being productive. Well, the irrigation mapping totally falls into the GIS department, and that was something that needed to be done, but the rest? All busy work.

After work was nice, though. I asked some of my co-workers if there were any good Chinese buffets around the area that I could try, and I ended up going out to dinner with Beth - the woman I'll probably be moving in with come May - at one of her favorite restaurants. She introduced me to the tasty appetizer that is the Lettuce Chicken Wrap, and we basically just kind of talked and got to know each other, so that was nice.

No plans for the weekend as of yet beyond doing laundry and *hopefully* getting my ass in gear and finally doing my taxes. One of these days I should attempt to do the social thing and meet people my own age, too, but I doubt that will happen any time soon.

So, earlier this afternoon I got it into my head to try on my new-and-improved Abby costume (okay, so not new, only improved, and only in that I found a very Abby-esque shirt at target), and then take some pictures complete with hair-and-makeup. I did not put the skirt on cause, yeah, it's cold and I couldn't do full-body self portraits anyway, but I did end up going a bit camera happy otherwise.

I'm not a camera whore, but I do so love playing with my camera )

So, yeah... Again, I went a bit camera happy. Is anyone at all surprised about this turn of events?

Said I would post pictures once my dad emailed them to me. Well, now he has, so you all get another Maren Pic Spam! And you can see the new haircut a bit better.

Indiana Maren )

Very rarely will I actually let my dad go camera crazy with me as his model cause I hate posed pictures, so it was a kind of momentous occasion. It helped that he really only had me pose for a few of them - the rest were taken kind of randomly. It was fun. Too bad I would probably never wear his jacket on a regular basis - it's a really nice jacket, and it's kinda a shame that it's sitting in a closet not being worn.

I went for a Winter Walk and took a bunch more pictures, which can be found starting here. Snow-phobes click at your own risk cause there is a *lot* of it.

In other news, last night I had my first nightmare in a long while that actually made me afraid to go back to sleep. I am grateful that the only thing I remember about it now is that it involved lions, demons (possibly demon lions), a creepy estate, the headlights on my car mysteriously going out just as I was entering Creepy Estate, and lots of me screaming and fighting like hell to wake up (in my head, there was massive amounts of screaming and thrashing and begging for someone to wake me up; in real life, I don't think I was even moving at all or making much, if any, noise).

When I was finally brave enough to go back to sleep, I had another dream involving a church and a strong desire to find a dark corner in the balcony to cry in and not draw attention to myself while I listened to the choir singing hymns down below. But no matter how hard I looked, I was never able to find anywhere that wasn't already extremely crowded with people who took one look at me over the top of their Bibles and just sneered, making it very clear I was not welcome. When I woke up from that one, my eyes were wet and there were tear tracks down my cheek.

So, yeah. Not a good night for dreams. I'm hoping tonight isn't more of the same.

I still haven't done my Intro to Soils and Water lab. Wheee, procrastination!

Instead, memeage! Snarched from several people on my friends list.

Picture Meme

The Rules:

1. Answer each of the questions below using the Flickr Search engine I used Google cause I didn't read all the directions first.

2. Choose a photo from the first three page.

3. Copy the URL of your favorite photo into this site: http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/mosaic.php

snip, snip )

In order to further procrastinate, I might use the actual Flickr search engine for this thing again later this afternoon/evening. Some of the pictures on there are way cooler.

Now that I have slept and gone through all the pictures I took last night, I can share them with you all! All of them are posted on my Facebook account, but for those of you who don't have Facebook, here are some highlights.

kinda picture heavy )

There were lots more, but most of them consisted of Melissa talking up even more guys. Gag of the night was that someone would take a picture whenever Melissa talked to a guy, and then we would count them all up at the end of the night. My count was 13, but I'm pretty sure there are a few I missed.

Might have more later when Melissa uploads her pictures. All in all it was a pretty fun night. A bit dull for Sober girl, but I still had a really good time.

So, I have two possible costumes to wear should, you know, I be a normal college student and go out for Halloween (though, honestly, I'll probably end up wearing one at school all day on Friday because I wanna dress up for Halloween, darnit, even if I don't go out). I'm a bit torn as to which one I should make use of, though.

So, I'm gonna ask you all to choose for me.

Should I go as Abby from NCIS - just picture me with Abby-esqe pigtails and makeup )

Or should I go as the Greek Goddes Artemis, which I did last year but which is still awesome )

So, which one do you think looks best? On the one hand, I really think my Artemis costume looks awesome (and I think I look best in it), but that one has props I'd be carrying around everywhere, otherwise I would look like Tinker Bell. On the other hand, even though I look nothing like Abby without the lab coat, that costume is really easy to get into and out of, I still look pretty hot, and there are no props to carry around. There would, however, be makeup to apply, and as I have never applied mascara or kohl, that would be a bit of a challenge.

Choices choices!

Today I got it in my head to go take pictures of the pretty leaves within walking distance of the Point House.

An hour and a half and 115 pictures later, I returned home and proceeded to send some of the highlights out to everyone in my gmail contacts list Yeah, so I may have gotten a bit carried away, but... Pretty leaves!

Anyway, I picked out a few of the highlights - though "highlights" is a rather relative term; there were, after all, over a hundred pictures to choose from - to share with everyone here on LJ. I made a slide show rather than copy and past all the html. I can't seem to get it to post properly in LJ, so I'll just give you all the direct link.

After all that happened with Emmies on Thursday (::hugs Em::), when I went home to see parents and change my oil and stuff on Saturday, I made it a point to get a lot of pictures of Niner. And, you know, pretty summer scenery, but mostly? Niner.

and now you all can see them, too )

There were a few more, but they either weren't very good or I thought they were kinda repetitive, so I left them out. But YAY doggie pic spam!

Not fair. I have been plagued by the hiccups all day. First they hit during swim lessons, which was all sorts of fun since I had to talk about safety today. Then just before I ate my lunch, and now again! It is so totally unfair.

In other news, I gave Rufus one of my old stretched out hair ties.

It's been pretty much more of the same for the last hour or so. As you can see, Kaza just looks at him like he's crazy.

Who needs to spend all sorts of money on cat toys? They get the utmost contentment and hours of play out of hair ties and milk rings.

I was going to post pictures of the cool storm clouds that rolled right past us both to the north and the south a few days ago, but I figured this post was already pic-spammy enough. Maybe later.

Cristin uploading pictures of Chi made me realize that I don't think I've ever posted any pictures of the kitties I'm currently living with on here (I've done quite a few on Facebook, but none on here). So, I decided to remedy that.

Kaza and Rufus pic spam )

I've never been much of a cat person, but I gotta admit, Dustin's cats rock. Mostly because they act so much like dogs (my one, true pet love) and are insanely affectionate, and not nearly as "aloof" as all the other cats I've had experience with. They don't even do the uber dignified, "I meant to do that" look whenever they do something stupid like fall off the couch (usually while playing), or one memorable occasion when Kaza was doing Zip Run and Stop maneuver and ended up "zipping" right off the side of the stairs (he meant to stop, but instead he slid on the wood step and fell off the side where the stairwell wall ends about two-thirds of the way down. No worries, he wasn't hurt as far as I could tell). They usually just go right back to running/scampering/playing/whatever they were doing before.

Anyways, those are the kitties I'm currently living with. I still miss my dogs, but at least I have something to snuggle every once in awhile.

I got my hair chopped. And, happily (as well as surprisingly), she didn't have to take off nearly as much as I thought would be necessary to get rid of the icky ends. Or, well, she *did* take off six inches worth, but apparently I have a lot more hair than I thought I did back there. Nice.

Anyway, it's still below my shoulders and plenty long enough to pull it back into a pony tail, which is all I really care about. Well, that and it looking decent, which it also does, so is all good. Of course, now I have a bunch of clips and bobby pins that I probably won't use very often, but at least I'll have them available when I do.

pictures, nothing really dramatic )

So, yes, my hair is a bit shorter. Yay for no more snarly ends!

Also, because they were on my camera and the files automatically transfer, Dustin gave me a TAPS sticker for Christmas. I put it on Shadowlite.
Doesn't she look sexy now? Well, sexier. )

And yes, I really did touch a stingray. Which sounds way dirtier than it really is. (that sticker is from way back when I went to St. Cloud for the first time for Transfer Orientation. After we hit the school, we went up to Duluth to visit some friends and stopped at the Great Lakes Aquarium, where mom and I pet some freshwater stingrays)
