* Saturday, Nov. 19 - Monday, Nov. 21 - let myself be convinced to go spend the weekend up in the wilds of the Northwoods without any running water or - at least on our side of the cabin - central heat with my friend Ethan and some of his family. It was kind of nice in it's own way; super pretty up there with the snow that started falling pretty thickly just after we arrived, and hey, who am I to protest the chance to spend the entire weekend reading guilt-free. It was very cold, however, and the sauna they use to clean up and bucket-shower was swarming with flies, which isn't fun when you're wet and naked. On the bright side, at least I didn't have to go four days without washing my hair like I did when we went up camping on Mt. Ranier.

* Tuesday - didn't do much as I was rather exhausted after three days without sleep (don't sleep - or eat much, come to think of it - well when I travel), though I did go into work for a Water Aerobics drop-in class in the evening. With the YMCA not running any programs this past week due to Thanksgiving, I figured I could use every bit of extra on my paycheck I could possibly manage.

* Wednesday - bit of cleaning, and then I took Buddy to the Marshfield dog park, and was pleased to discover he seemed to get on well with the other dogs. Kind of shy and came running back to me to "hide" pretty often, and he was drooling so much he looked a bit rabid, but no barking, growling or snapping from him or the other dogs, hurray! Might try and do it again soonish - the poor boy loves to play, but we're never around to play with him.

* Thursday, Nov. 24 - TURKEY DAY! - Rode down to Ripon with my parents and my brother Ben to have Thanksgiving Dinner with a good chunk of Mom's side of the family. Had dinner at a catering place owned by a high school friend of Mom's instead of Gramma M going crazy trying to have it at their place again. Ate entirely too much (but less than I usually do at these sort of things) and caught up a bit with aunts, uncles, and cousins.

* Friday - cleaning like a mad cleaning thing, getting ready to host about a two-thirds of my dad's family for that side's Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday.

* Saturday, Nov. 26 - Dad and I were crazy busy in the morning trying to get everything cooked (I was charged with the green bean casserole, twice-baked potatoes, fruit salad, and getting the munchies set to go since we would be eating so late while Dad mostly focused on the cleaning and the sweet potatoes) and all the last minute cleaning accomplished before his oldest sister and her family arrived at around 12:30. Mom finished up the few work things she had and brought Gramma home with her around 1:30 pm and we were able to sit down to a late dinner by about 2:30. Caught up with cousins, ate too much again, and spent the rest of the evening watching movies (Tron: Legacy is awesome) and playing on my computer before crashing at 8:45ish because I was Just That Tired. Of course then I tossed and turned from 10pm to 1 or 2am because of my sorta nap beforehand, but such is life.

* Sunday, Nov. 27 (Today) - did two loads of laundry, otherwise? A whole lot of nothing. Watched another movie (The Tourist with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, where I totally spoiler ), but it was still fun and I'd watch it again and hey, who am I to turn down two such pretty, pretty people together on one screen?

Back to work tomorrow, alas, but I'm very sure my bank account will thank me. Speaking of bank accounts, note to self - You WILL go on another job-applying spree tomorrow afternoon before work. We really, really DO NOT NEED to go any further into debt than we already are.

Right, so, updateiness.

1 - the job search continues. I applied for three more internships with Geocorps yesterday - one at Grand Canyon, one at Kenai Fjords National Park, and another one somewhere else I can't recall off the top of my head. Not sure if I will get them, but at least I tried, so go me.

2 - Rock and Gem show went okay. Not as well as years past and I only sold a few tumbled rocks for a grand total of three bucks. However, I was able to see a friend I hadn't in awhile, and I got a new polishing cloth.

3 - Today was the first day of the annual town-wide garage sale in our itty bitty village. More than 40 garage sales going on all weekend. Dad went this morning and found a really nice display cabinet for Mom for Mothers Day. I went out this afternoon with the dog and mostly just used it as an excuse to get out and enjoy the nice weather while it lasted, though I did come home with a new hat. Dog also did way better than I expected being around all these "OMG, NEW PEOPLE! OMG, ANOTHER DOG I CAN SNIFF!" He was only wired for the first two garage sales or so, then he calmed down significantly and only got super leash-tuggy when slow moving cars drove by, because he rather loves to chase them. As the sales were winding down as we wandered, this was only an issue a few times. Yay getting outside and getting a ton of exercise! (walked at least four miles all together) Also ran into one of my old babysitters and chatted with her for a few minutes! I did not tell her how old I was, though, because I didn't want to make her feel like an old lady... it was a loooooooong time ago. I think I was 7.

And that is pretty much it. Money is getting super tight so impulse drives into Marshfield to do Stuff are getting too expensive (a round trip is a gallon of gas) to indulge in unless I *really* have something I need to do, and preferably, several somethings to make the trip worth while. And while there has been discussion with A Boy, we have yet to meet in person and I've been pretty clear that I'd rather just do the friend thing. So, yeah, my life is pretty unexciting at the moment and I don't even have much to spam with.

Usually lolcats/loldogs kind of irritate me since the improper grammar and intentional misspellings is kind of akin to nails on the chalkboard for me, but I gotta admit, this picture totally made me giggle.

In other news, I have most of my holiday ornaments finished. I still need to make one for Manda, Emmies, Emma, and Melissa, but I think I'm good after that. At least I sure hope I am - I plan on having a bunch of random extras just in case I miss anyone.
rensong: (Default)
We were able to sleep in! Finally! Yay us! I got up at 9:30ish, and Manda got up around 11. Of course, that might because we went to the dance club last night. Yay dancing! Also, I beat Manda at pool! Only because she knocked in the 8 ball, though. Still, go me.

Other than sleeping in, today we did a whole lot of nothin'. Tried to wander Main Street, but it pretty much shuts down on Sundays. Did go to the book store and the Art Village, though, so it wasn't a total loss. Then we spent an hour or two making sand castles at the itty bitty beach near Mead Park. Mine looked like a very short, stubby rocket. Manda's looked like a kinda weird siesta hat. Or a volcano. Or something. Anyway, we were so engrossed in our sandy creativity that we almost missed dinner with a few friends at El Mezcal. Which, considering I was the one who encouraged the "Lets get together for dinner!" thing, missing it might've shown bad form. Still, we made it and we were only a minute or two late. Despite the almost late start, though, dinner was hella fun. It was myself, Manda, Tracy, Val, Dustin and Dan. It ended up being a very dirty-minded evening, which are totally the best kind. Also, my shrimp nachos were really good.

Back at Point house now. I gave new roommates dog a bath while Manda worked out. I did not think it was possible for a dog to lose that much hair without having a few huge bald spots; seriously, there was probably enough left in the bathtub after I finished to make another dog. And holy cow did she *stink* - wet dog with gas in a small room with poor ventilation. Haley (roommate) was going to give me 5 bucks for giving Abby (dog) a bath; I might charge her more just for the stink-factor I suffered through, and the clean up I had to do after I finished.

Back in Point. There was a bit of a "Hey, is it supposed to do that?" with Coyote's coolant system, so I didn't leave parents as early as I had planned, but I got back here in one piece without any car issues, so hopefully all is well in the automotive department.

Anyway, it was extremely nice to get home and snuggle with the doggy and catch up with my parents. I gave them coffee as a thank you for all they put up with from me, both as I grew up over the last 24 years and last weekend when my Annual Emotional Breakdown hit hard and I spent a few hours crying into the phone in the middle of a panic attack with Mom or Dad on the other end talking to me and trying to calm me down. My parents rock; they deserve good Coffee Cabin coffee.

I also got me some grilled burgers and foil-packet-on-grill veggies, which were very tasty.

Now I have homework I should do. ::whines and is "but I don't wanna!"::

The problem with having an uncommon, un-heeded, stress-and-anxiety-related cry fest at 8 am is that it takes so damned long for you're face to get back to normal afterwards. Especially if you keep crying, dammit.

Aaaarg, I hate crying. I know I should do it more cause, you know, scientific fact about how bad it is for you to hold it all in, but still.

The Weepy Phone Call Home happened this morning after my last post. At least it was at a decent time instead of 2 in the morning.

Taking Nine home after class. I feel like a wuss.
rensong: (not so far away)
Nine is fine. I'm the one with the anxiety issues.

Had a minor anxiety attack last night - not enough to call my mommy at 2 in the morning (though I might've if I knew they were at home), but enough that I spent the night on the couch because my stomach was all knotted up and I wanted to be closer to the bathroom just in case. And enough so that I got up at 6 this morning to go check on Nine again and let her out for a bit. She did use the bathroom this time, which is one less thing to worry about... and yet I still do.

My brain knows that Nine will be fine, but that doesn't stop the Worst Case scenarios from jumping around in there and only increasing my anxieties.

Arg, stupid brain. I though we were over this whole Worry Yourself Sick thing.
rensong: (not so far away)
I am being a paranoid doggy mommy. To the point where the last three/four hours, I have been extremely anxious about leaving Nine by herself, and had to go check on her twice and snuggle her for a few minutes to convince myself that yes, she was, in fact, perfectly fine, and seems to be settling into her new diggs quite well. One of those times was just now, in my pajamas, after I had actually turned off my computer, gotten *in* to bed and turned out the lights with every intent to call it a night and try to sleep. I stayed there all off 5 minutes before I jumped out of bed, put a sweatshirt and some slipper socks on and went to check on her one more time.

I have no clue why I am being so anxious about this. This is not the first night she has spent by herself - in fact, it happens quite often. Only, she's usually at *home*, in a place she is familiar with, and not in this strange new building in a strange town with the only sign of home being her doggy pillow/pad/mat and myself. It's too the point where I'm very tempted to take her back home tomorrow and ask the neighbors to check on her and give her food and all that. On the one hand, she'll be at home in a place she is familiar and comfortable with. On the other hand, Mom and Dad probably won't be getting home until Thursday, so she'll be all by herself.

I feel better now that I've checked on her, but I'm still all paranoid that something will go wrong over the course of the next 8 hours or so.

Please, PTBs, let this all just be some completely irrational paranoia.
rensong: (lesser species)
Nine is doing... Okay, as far as I can see. She still hasn't gone to the bathroom at all since she got here, and that's after I took her out three times, so that is a bit worrisome since I know she has drunk a whole bunch of water since she got here. I'm not too worried yet, though, because I know that last time she was away from home over night, she didn't do anything until the second morning/afternoon anyway, so hopefully she just doesn't have to go and isn't all "zomigod, don't wanna pee here cause it is not my house or my yard or my field!"

Other than that, she seems to be settling in okay. We have her set up in the back building (what it was/is is still a mystery - mostly just a big empty room with lights, so we're thinking a workroom or some such) instead of inside the house because she still can't manage stairs, which the house has at both entrances. The back building is right at ground level, so she can get in and out of it easier. I feel really bad leaving her out there all by herself, but there isn't anything *out* there except some old torn out carpet and a few chairs and shelves that Mandy found at garage sales and what not. It's basically a second garage, only without the car-sized door. I suppose I could always go out with a sleeping bag, but that seems a bit extreme.

She is out of the rain, however, and actually has a pretty posh place all to her self all thing considered. She's used to sleeping on a pile of leaves and dirt under my parents back porch or out in the yard some place when she's outside, and just the bare wood floor when she's inside. At the moment I have the torn-out rug all spread out for her as well as her doggy pillow with her food and water right there, and she has the entire back building to herself, which is probably about the size of our living room and kitchen combined here in the house. She's just out there all by herself, which makes me feel kinda bad cause I know she likes having people in the room with her to keep her company.

She has spent entire days alone in the house at my parents, though, so hopefully she'll be okay out there.

In other news, with the dog stuff and the grocery stuff and the rainy stuff, I didn't get to school at all today to finish my labs. Monday and Tuesday are gonna kinda suck, since both labs are due on Wednesday and both will likely require at *least* two hours each to finish, likely more. Ugh, I'm so glad I'm not working at all this semester, cause that would make the next two afternoons suck even more.

I have a doggy. Parents brought Niner over for a few days while they're out of town. I only hope she's okay here for the next few days, seeing as she's 13 years old and has never been away from home more than one or two nights. She was even born in my parents back yard, so yeah... I'm a little worried about stressing her out. She seems to be doing okay, but again, she's only been here for an hour. I took her for a walk around the block to get used to the place, so hopefully that will help.
rensong: (sleepy kitty)
After all that happened with Emmies on Thursday (::hugs Em::), when I went home to see parents and change my oil and stuff on Saturday, I made it a point to get a lot of pictures of Niner. And, you know, pretty summer scenery, but mostly? Niner.

and now you all can see them, too )

There were a few more, but they either weren't very good or I thought they were kinda repetitive, so I left them out. But YAY doggie pic spam!

Emmies went to the vet today for Jake. She posted a few lovely pictures of him and Pete in her LJ.

I am so sorry for your loss, honey. I wish I could be there for you more than just on AIM.

He will be missed. But like I said before, now Pete and Jake are together again and they are up there prancing around as young, healthy puppies and causing all sorts of havoc with the heavenly squirrels and rabbits and mowed-over tennis balls. :)

{{hugs again}} Love you, sweety. I'm here if you need me.

A day later and I'm actually okay. I wish I could give Auggy one more big hug and have him try and slime my face one more time, but that's pretty common. I was able to spend a lot of time with him and Nine this past weekend, so maybe that helps a bit. I'll miss him big time, especially when Nine moves on and there aren't any more puppies waiting for me at home, but I'm okay.

Thanks to everyone who sent me an email or gave me a text message offering me their sympathy and concern. Even though I wasn't much in the mood to respond to that kind of thing when I received them, it still meant a lot that you all tried to break through my self-imposed 24 hour isolation. I'm also unlocking comments on the last two posts, because I don't *think* every response will make me go all weepy again. :)

But yes, I am okay. Thanks again for all you love an support.

In other news, todays forecast calls for rain. Tomorrow's forecast does, too. And Saturday. Possibly Sunday as well. Oh, look, a 30% chance on Monday, too. Oh, yeah, and the entire bottom half of Wisconsin is under a Flash Flood watch, with no few Warnings tossed in there as well. A few Flood Statements for flavor. Translation? Wisconsin is *soggy*. The ground is so saturated that even "high" ground makes squishy wet noises when you step on it. And yes, that is totally the technical term for it.

You know... I'm have a very hard time remembering the last time rain wasn't in the forecast. Em and I totally lucked out on Monday/Tuesday with the Doggy Play Date, because seriously... I think that was the only quote-un-quote "dry" day for the last week and a half. Pretty soon I'm going to have to start swimming to work.

Auggy was hit by a car. He didn't make it. I'm between crying jags right now and really don't much feel like talking to anyone. Thank you for any sympathetic thoughts, but please hold off on the comments for a day or two. Anything expressed in words will probably just set me off again, and you all know how much I hate crying. I know you all care, and I appreciate it, really I do. I'll unlock the comments feature in a day or so.

And a Scout and a Marly and a Jake and a Daddy Anderson. It was a big ol' doggie halobalooza in which Argyle made some new friends (Marly spent a good chunk of the evening chasing him around in circles. This is made all the more amusing by the fact that Marly weighs maybe a third of Auggy soaking wet. I only wish it wasn't too dark to get them on camera), and Niner ended up being locked inside because she could *not* make friends . Not that I really blame her, though, since she was a bit outnumbered by all the boy, and the fact that she is used to being Top Dog.

But, that's okay because Daddy Anderson was having some Leg Ouchies, so he and Nine were able to keep each other company inside while Argyle slimed everyone else outside. Seriously. That dog goes practically rabid with the drool foam when he is excited. No one escaped unscathed, be it man or dog beast. ;)

Also, it once again took forever to get a fire going because all of the wood was soaking wet. Even the stuff down in the basement was damp, so it was only by gratuitous use of birch bark and about 5 matches that we got it going at all. However, we did get it started eventually. Yay us! Alas, the Flaming Penis of DOOM did not make a reappearance, despite several attempts. It just wouldn't stay lit cause of the wet (oooo, dirty thoughts. Bad brain, go to your room!). However, there was still roasting of marshmallows, my name in flames, Puppy Fun, and lots and lots of Emmies time. It was much with the good. I will totally post pictures when I get back to Plover.

* worked from 10-12ish
* drove home for the afternoon (made good time, even. Point to parents drive way in 52 minutes. It's usually about an hour fifteen minutes/hour and twenty minutes)
* showed parents pictures I took with the lake sediment coring I did last week
* ate lunch with parental units. Mmm, SOS (Shit On a Shingle - aka, shredded beef and some chopped veggies on a piece of bread. Tasty, yo - and they gave me left overs, so yay food)
* laughed my ass off at a few old home videos of when my Mom went down to Texas to visit a close family friend, Teresa, back in 1991. One of her dogs burped really long and loud right in front of the camera. All you can see is the dog's nose, and then there's this big loud "buuuuuuuuuurp". Dad said that one might even make it to Funniest Home Videos some day
* got a few more pictures to add to the scrapbook I'm making Mom
* snuggled the doggies
* acquired a new towel and a new pair of wind pants from my mom
* started back to Plover around 4:45, getting here around 6:15. Got stuck behind a semi for the last fifteen-twenty miles, so didn't make as good time, but hey, I got here
* watched the last few minutes of TMNT on HBO
* ate a turkey, stuffing and baked apple Lean Cusine for dinner. It was also tasty.

So, that was my day. Yay for family, food, and puppy dogs!

Went home for a few hours this afternoon. Mom made pot roast and potatoes - yum! I got left overs, so wohoo for that!

Em's dad had something come up last minute, so woe, we were not able to get the doggies together for a play date. We'll hopefully be able to reschedule one of these days, preferably sooner rather then later since neither of us are sure how much time Nine and Jake have left. I wouldn't put it past either of them to prove us both wrong and live for another two or three years, but who knows. Only time will tell.

I am slowly working my way through the [ profile] yuletide entries for 2007. So far I have almost made it through "E". I so love Eureka.

That said, tomorrow, if all goes as planned and the weather behaves, I will have an Emmies to glomp! We've been meaning to set up a doggy play date so Scout, Marly, and Argyle can have someone not delicate to romp with for a few hours (poor Niner and Jake are just getting too old for rough-housing), and since Em has today and tomorrow off, we decided to finally make it happen. Hopefully Em and her dad will be heading out to the house (parents house, not Plover house) with the doggies and there shall be much glompage and doggie snuggles.

And thats all I got right now.

This is the first time I've uploaded a video onto photobucket, so I'm not sure if this will work. Guess we'll see.

Anyway, Dad was using his laser pointer to taunt Argyle earlier. And I just figured out how to record video on my digi camera last night. You can guess where this is going.

He is so *cute*!

Came home for the day/night. As soon as I got in the driveway, Niner got extremely excited and she was running (or at least the closest I've seen her get to running in the last 3 years) and trotting and even doing cute wee little jumps (this coming from a dog who has had trouble *walking* for the last two years because her arthritis had gotten so bad) and wanting to go for a walk, so I left off on my dinner (mmm, take out Chinese) and bringing stuff in from the car and took both dogs for a walk down the road in the wind and the spirtzl. When I turned around and yelled at them to head on back, I called Auggy about four times before he reappeared out of the long grasses of the ditch and came bolting back toward me and Nine, where as he usually comes almost immediately (unless he is distracted by chasing the neighbors dogs down the road, that is). The reason it took him so long? Auggy had found an entire *chicken* in the ditch on the side of the road. Not just any chicken, mind, but a fully plucked, prepared, and ready to toss in the pot chicken. I kid you not. If I had rinsed it off and added some potatoes and seasonings, I would have had no qualms about tossing it in the oven for a few hours and making dinner for the parental units.

I didn't, of course. It was, after all, Auggy's chicken. He had found it (a *chicken*! On the side of the road!) and I saw no reason to deny him his prize, especially when I had got me some Italian Shrimp and Crab Ragoon take-out to further clog my arteries. Of course, Auggy is still a giant pansy, and it was only a few minutes before Nine had convinced him that she was still the biggest (even if it isn't entirely accurate anymore) and baddest and stole it from him (to which I mentally went "Way to go, Nine!" She may be 12 years old with major arthritis in her hips, but she can still kick ass if the situation calls for it).

Dad got home a little after we had gotten back from our walk, Auggy strutting his stuff with his prize chicken. We both stood around doing that "are you *kidding* me!?" kinda shocked laughter (chicken! Fully prepared! On the side of the road! I just can't get past that) for about five minutes before Dad went inside to get his camera and take a picture. Of course, by the time he got back outside, Nine had gained custody of the chicken and Auggy was lying a few feet away looking throughly ruffled ("She stole my chicken, Ma! Not fair!"), but he took the picture anyway. Then he decided that he really didn't want either of our dogs munching on raw chicken, so he went out with a bake pan and retrieved it. The chicken is now in the oven cooking, and both dogs will likely get equal share of it once it's finished. It is Auggy's chicken, after all.

I took my change jars to the bank this morning, and then I went to ShopKo (well, first I went to Target and all their cameras were too expensive, and then I went to Walmart and the camera I wanted was out of stock, and *then* I went to ShopKo where they had the camera that was out of stock at Walmart, but it cost $149.99, but then the nice man who was pricing cameras informed me that IT WAS ON SALE FOR $99! and he just hadn't put the new sticker up yet. OMG, YAY!!!) and got a Samsung S730 with 7.2 mega pixels and a 5.8-17.4 mm zoom. It also came with a free 250 MB storage disk, but those were all out of stock to I got a rain check. Didn't bother me too much, though, because it looks like I can store one hundred 1 MB images on the internal flash disk of the camera (which is the lowest resolution. I imagine at the highest resolution - which is 7 MB - I could store about 20, give or take). Also, it is red and it is shiny and it has Advanced Shake Reduction, which is good cause otherwise all my pictures would be out of focus. As it is, only about two or three of them are out of focus. ;)

And, of course, with a new camera, Maren just *had* to go on a picture-taking spree.

I'll probably do pictures of the rest of the house eventually, but I wouldn't hold your breath. As much as I love taking the pictures, resizing them takes too much effort. ;)
