Because I fail at keeping up with my fan fiction addiction. Tin Man rec dump now, and then the random handful of Star Trek Reboot, White Collar, Bones, Firefly, and Supernatural stories I've read the last few weeks.

Road to Recovery by Jedi Buttercup
It was no wonder things weren't happily-ever-after yet, the way Popsicle's stories had promised. Real life was a whole lot messier than fairy tales ever accounted for, and it would be a long while before everyone recovered. A short, slightly more realistic OZ after the events of Tin Man. Struggling, but on the road to recovery.

The Princess and the Pizza by Jedi Buttercup
Dawn and DG compare the craziness of their lives over pizza and soda. Total fluff.

Loophole by animegus farmus
A bunch of stuffy old bureaucrats try and force DG into an arranged marriage that was set up when she was four. She finds a way around it. Again, total fluff.

If Things Were Different by Feistyfox
What might've happened if the witch was never freed, and DG and her sister grew up as princesses of the OZ. Link to the first chapter, the rest can be found under the 'if things were different' tag.

How Like a Winter by dress without sleeves
A very realistic look at Azkadellia after her possession. The brief in-the-background glimpses of DG don't really seem that in character to me, but that might be because I've been spoiled by all the Tin Man fanfiction I've read... especially since I've only seen the *actual* miniseries twice. The Az-focus is spot on, though, and Cain is pretty awesome, too.

The Director's Bad Choices by Channel D. Exactly what the title says - the hilarious results of what might've happened had Director Vance switched around the new assignments for Gibbs' team at the end of season five. Crack of the crackiest degree, almost enough to forgive for eating every freaking symbol that might be used to divide a story into parts (this I know from experience... it is *insanely* irritating!) and causing the formatting to be irritatingly squished. I think my favorite might be Tony's new assignment, though Tim and Ducky get close seconds.

Mooched from Laurie on Facebook

If Historical Events Had Facebook Statuses, because it is awesome and needs to be shared. Second part is linked on the bottom. There is also If God Were On Facebook, which is also awesome.

Wild About Harry by friendshipper. Everyone has the hots for Harry, including the cat. It had me snickering like crazy the entire time I was reading it, and if I was on my own computer, I would totally be Scrapbooking it right now.

(thanks to [ profile] icepixie, who I stole the link from even if she was technically posting it for someone else)

Mooched from Nicole on Facebook because I want to add it to my 'fluff' tag.

I stopped watching the news years ago because it was So Damn Depressing, and I figure I could get all of the really important stuff second and third hand. 8 Feel-Good Websites to Brighten Your Day is a CNN article that links to eight news sights that only have happy or inspirational stories because apparently I'm not the only one sick and tired of bad news, so many koodos to the people who have gone through the effort to score the interwebs for stories that don't break your heart (except in the best possible way).

And, for future reference when that CNN article gets lost in the archives never to be seen again (because I *know* I'm going to want to keep these links handy):

Happy News -
"We believe virtue, goodwill and heroism are hot news. That's why we bring you up-to-the-minute news, geared to lift spirits and inspire lives."

Give Me Hope -
Gives Me Hope (GMH) offers user-submitted true stories of kindness and generosity. The stories are sentimental and, at times, almost heartbreakingly sweet

(and another one that this one reminded me of - It Made My Day

1000 Awesome Things -
1000 Awesome Things is a blog, updated every weekday, that enumerates the little things in life that make us happy. It's a reminder that even the smallest of feats are reason to smile.

Post Secret -
This secret-sharing site might be the perfect outlet to release that secret you've been harboring. Every Sunday founder Frank Warren posts a handful of secrets that people have anonymously mailed him on postcards.

Sometimes it can do a world of good to know someone shares your fears, dreams, hopes and failures

Christian the Lion -
A video rather than a website, but still pretty awesome. I had seen it before years ago, but only a few days ago I was considering doing an internet search to watch it again.

The backstory: John Rendall and Anthony Bourke bought Christian, a lion cub, from Harrods in 1969 and raised him in their London home. Several years later, they set the lion free to live in the wilds of Africa.

A year later, against the advice of experts, the pair was determined to locate Christian. They traveled to Kenya to find him, and their reunion was recorded on film. Really, you just have to watch it -- it's truly inspirational.

Today's Big Thing -
Make Today's Big Thing your new home page and you won't be inundated with depressing stories. Instead, you'll see the latest funny videos and creative pictures the internet has to offer in arts, entertainment, sports and more -- the real "news" people will be talking about at work tomorrow.

ZooBorns - (happy zoo news, usually centering around baby animals)

The Thirteenth Interrupted Pub Night by [ profile] pocky_slash. Ianto and Gwen have a conversation, get captured by aliens, have a conversation, escape, have a conversation, run for their lives, and have another conversation. Gwen/Ianto friendship, mostly fluff.

More fic rec dumps cause I said I would.

Kitty Kitty Bang Bang by [ profile] littledoglaughd. "Oh, come on, Gwen, it's a little bit funny. Kittens? BOOBY TRAPPED KITTENS!" It was a little bit funny, actually.
rensong: (Sg-1 - Armed and Dangerous)
Five Times Jim Was Neurotically Mothered By His Crew (And One Time He Mothered Them Right Back) by [ profile] _seven_crows. Don't need to summarize this one because the title pretty much covers it. Mostly fluff, with a bit of "Kirk!whump" (as he author calls it) at the beginning.
rensong: (Default)
Topography of a Foreign Land by [ profile] phantomjam. In which there are hydras, flowers and a sudden increase in understanding. Okay, so I probably totally started reading this one because of the title (cause, hello, Geoscience major. ;) ), but it ended up definitely being worthwhile. And keep an eye out for the hydra head... it totally steals the scene(s) - there is another short drabble in the comments. ;)
rensong: (Independence Day)
Ianto, Earl of Cardiff by [ profile] gilascave - Uh. Aliens. Torchwood. Ianto backstory. Crackfic. That about covers it, yeah. Fun and fluffy.

I have ::counts:: eleven stories in my fic recs folder, so yeah, next few entries are going to be fic dumps. Non-fandom types feel free to ignore.

Also, it has been at least a month since I read most of these, so I am totally going to be stealing the authors' summaries if they give me any.

NCIS - Milepost 164 . Gibbs and Tony stuck in a small cabin to wait out a snowstorm. As fluffy as fresh fallen snow! Friendship fic.
rensong: (Independence Day)
Lunch and Other Obscenities by [ profile] rheanna27. Kinda hard to summarize this one without spoiling some of the fun, so I'm stealing the author's summary. Nyota liked her roommate just fine until she met her. The development of Uhura & Gaila's friendship.
rensong: (lesser species)
Bring Me the Head of Bobby Knight by [ profile] scrunchy. It's like an episode of Sports Night that just never made it to air (though, admittedly, an episode that takes place 6 years after the series). Dan and Casey banter, Jeremy is adorable, Natalie states the obvious, and Dana just goes with it all. Man, I miss this show.

Wow, a post every day for two whole weeks now. Will wonders never cease? It's probably been almost a year on that front. I suppose this is what happens when I suddenly find myself with an abundance of free time and I don't even have anything to procrastinate on.

And because of my abundance of free time, I start reading more fan fic, so the next few posts are going to be recommendations.

Displacement by [ profile] smilebackwards, a Stargate SG-1/Stargate Atlantis crossover that takes place at the SGC (mostly) after the SGA crew is booted out of Atlantis by the former owners in The Return. Shepperd is homesick and morose, but he gets by with a little help from his new friends. John isn't really sure how to feel about the fact that he seems to have been unofficially adopted by SG-1. It is both fluffy and slightly sad at the same time. I have no idea how the author pulled it off, but it works and I am totally going to go read it again now even though I still have more than 11 months until self-imposed "Don't reread for a year!" deadline is up. Yes, it really is that good.

One more before I crash - Lone Star State of Mind by scrunchy (link to the last part with the other four listed). It is Dan and it is Casey in exactly the way I love them most - best friends who love each other dearly, and who would do anything for each other. I'm as game to jump on the Dan/Casey bandwagon as anyone; after all, it's not like the series doesn't supply the slash fans with tons of material anyway - but what I really truly absolutely adore is the friendship, the warm fuzzies you get when you think about *your* best friend(s). That particular brand of fluff is some of the best kind, and this story is full of it; the true-to-the-series deadpan, sarcasm, and quirkiness is just an added bonus.

And now I am going to bed.

Yeah, so it's no secret I've been on a bit of a Sports Night kick this past week...

Guess what? I still totally am. Will Dunk For Brains by minervacat. Someone mentions zombies. It goes down hill from there. Fluff to the extreme, and funny to boot.

That said, holy cow! With this entry I have posted at least once a day for an entire week! Been awhile since that happened.

Pink Umbrella Drinks by [ profile] anonymous_sibyl. In which Jo decides to not play by the rules for once, dolls herself up and goes bar hopping with Zoe. I can't ever picture this actually happening on the series, but it is an incredibly fun ride and there were many LOL moments, which totally makes it worth a reread eventually.
rensong: (lesser species)
Snowstorms and Other Forces of Nature by [ profile] nestra. Title says it all - Casey, Dan, and Dana get snowed in. Both sweet and funny, just like the show, and as good a reason as any for the three of them to end up in bed together. ;)
rensong: (sleepy kitty)
Next few posts are going to be fic rec dumps. Just an FYI.

How to Avoid Kicking Puppies and Other Valuable Lessons in Leadership by [ profile] sparky77. Totally just read this one because I just couldn't resist a peek after that title, and I'm glad I did. Very amusing, and I can totally see something like this happening. Poor Chekov. Authors Notes: Notes: I was amusing myself by imagining Kirk attempting to be an authority figure and this is what happened.
rensong: (Default)
Office Work by [ profile] entangled_now. Just some cute Doctor and Donna fluff that is too short to summarize without pretty much telling the whole story
rensong: (Independence Day)
Fake by [ profile] entangled_now. In which assumptions are made and taken advantage of. Also, "Great, fantastic, it's nice to know you'd whore me out for pudding!" is totally the best line ever.

Vid rec!

[ profile] icepixie has been systematically working her way through all of the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers movies out there for the last month or two, and recently she decided to make a fantastic fan vid of the two of them. It is very awesome and if you like dancing at all, you all should go watch. :)

In other news, my Weatherbug is now informing me that there is no longer any maybe - we *will* be clobbered by the blizzard that is currently building up over the Central Great Plains, and it will also be gaining intensity as it moves east. Should get here tomorrow afternoonish, with 6-14 inches possible by Thursday. I am very glad I got all of my shopping and running around done yesterday.

Context is Everything by lokeis_pen. Adorable Castle and Beckett story that puts the "fluff" in "fluffy". Castle questions his new nickname.

Alrighty, I have at least another half dozen stories in my "fic recs" folder, but I'll save those for another time. Mostly because I am lazy, but also because I want to shower soonish.
rensong: (not so far away)
Good, In the Latin by merrily. Zoe gets some news a few weeks after Miranda. Beautifully written, mostly fluff, though it is still ever so slightly bitter-sweet thanks to events of The Big Damn Movie.
rensong: (lesser species)
I read this story years and years ago, but either I never got around to posting the link period, or it never made it into my memories if I did. Serendipity by Arduinna. Pure fluff - Sarah has planned a surprise party for Walt's birthday, Johnny spends most of it trying to find a present for him. Little bit on the sappy side, but it's the non-romantic kind of sappy, which is all good.
