So I've figured out how to cross post from here to LJ, but not from LJ to here. So I do apologize if there is any sort of double posting.

That said, fic recs! A whole bunch of them all at once because I lack the patience to do them one by one today. And dude, there are like twenty of them here.

Stargate SG-1
Aggravated Destruction of Property by Kalquessa. JONAS AND VALA. TOGETHER. IN A JAIL CELL. Nuff said. Happy fic that makes me happy.

Nocturne by purple shrub. I can't actually remember what happens in this one, so I'm mooching the authors note and summary. SPOILERS : Hmm…this takes place both 1st season, before Fire and Water, and 7th season, post Fallen. I’m told familiarity with Meridian is needed to understand it.
SUMMARY : Teal’c/Daniel friendship

Wherever We Go by gingasaur. "You should just write about Jonas and Vala going on a picnic." She was joking. And yet here we are. In which Jonas is trying to be angry and wallow in self pity in peace, but Vala won't let him.

Stargate Atlantis
Walk Beside Me by Rachel500. When a diplomatic mission is interrupted by the Wraith, Sam and Teyla wrestle their personal demons to work together and find a way back to Atlantis. In other words, Sam and Teyla being awesome and bad ass. And oh, hey, bonding a bit along the way, too.

Dr. Who
The Tragic Demise of the Psychic Paper by alsodinosaurs. Title pretty much covers it. Fluff.

well, you know by roachpatrol. Series 1 AU, It is July in New New York, 099: the dawning of the latest and greatest era of beauty, freedom, truth and love, but mostly love. And when it comes to Rose Tyler and Jack Harkness, a lot of beauty. John Smith is so hopelessly in love with his two best friends that sometimes he thinks he could just about explode. But he's no one special. Not really. Lyrical and slightly melancholy, but lovely in it's own way.

Handyman by pluto. Donna is breaking. Shaun can't help but try and help fix her.

White Collar
A Wake-up Call a Mean Ragout by china-shop. Another one I can't recall much of what happened, but there is Neal being sneaky and Peter being oblivious. And El making a mean ragout.

No, and here's a dozen reasons why by china-shop. Peter on why it would be a Bad Idea, but who is tempted to take the risk anyway.

Nothing Says 'Feel Better Soon' Like Grand Theft Larceny by OnYourMark. On why you do NOT mess with Elizabeth Burk, because "dirty" doesn't even scratch the surface when Neal Caffrey really wants to play ball.

Strays by sahiya. Neal and some kittens. Yes, KITTENS. And NEAL. I'm not sure it is possible to get any more adorable than that. Fluff of the fluffiest.

Vorkosigan Saga
The Stuff That Dreams by dsudis. Bad dreams and having someone to hold onto.

Vorkosigan Sousleau by Philomytha. "I freely admit that I don't know much about boats," Cordelia said, treading water, "but I'm pretty sure the sail is supposed to be pointing up." Aral and Cordelia fluff

Here Tomorrow, Gone Today by Tari Roo. SGA/SPN Crossover AU. One shot. The world ended and not how any hunter would have imagined. A BSG-style fleet of refugees on the run, with Dean Winchester aboard the Hammond. Shep POV.

Quick Like a Bunny by innie-darling. Sherlock/Queer Eye For The Straight Guy. I kid you not. Nuff said.

And stick a fork in me, I'm done.

Usually I do fic dumps one post at a time so I can keep them all neat and organized in my LJ Memories. With the mess of computer issues I've had the last few weeks month and a half, though, I am far too lazy to make ::counts:: at least a dozen separate entries. So, you get one huge fic dump instead. Enjoy!

Dresden Files
Holy Wars by TigerKat. This one is actually a crossover with a movie, but sharing what that movie is would spoil the surprise. Suffice to say, Dresden and co find themselves in charge of a very very special young lady that multiple parties would love to get their hands on.

Moose Bites Can Be Pretty Nasty by TigerKat. There is a demon moose. It bites. That is about all I can remember

Stargate Atlantis/Stargate SG-1
Nobody Does It Better by eretria. Stealing authors summary because it has been long enough I don't actually recall what happens in this one. In which everyone loves Rodney, Vala is a stowaway, John is smart, Sam is flummoxed, Daniel is jealous, Ronon and Teyla realize all Earth people are peculiar, and Elizabeth is reminded that guests are like fish. (Pegasus Project based teamfic with a side-dish of John/Vala and Sam/Rodney - Prequel to "A question of perspective Or Reality Doesn't Always Come in Second to Fantasy").
I have not read the second one, so I have no idea what happens in that one, either, but I figure I'd link it just to have it handy next time I go on a fic binge.

Starting Over by pogrebin. Post-series - After Atlantis lands back on Earth, the Pegasus team has to figure out how to start over - again.

In Short by penknife. A few short, snarky "missing scene" kind of blurbs covering the whole of both series.

Stargate SG-1
Anarchists Invaded by voleuse. Fluffy Vala/Sam friendship fic

Big Bang Theory
Progression by lurkisblurkis. Sheldon is not sure what to do if one loves a woman. One-shot, based on a series of random prompts.

Iron Man/West Wing
That Kind of Crazy by neonhummingbird. Pepper Potts calls her BFF Donna Moss to complain about her crazy superhero boss

Star Wars
Inversion by Lisse. What if Bali wanted a son instead of a daughter? Looooove this story so very much. My only protest is that it wasn't longer, because the potential is endless.

NCIS/Stargate Atlantis
Prodigal by Domenika Marzione. Again, it's been awhile since I read this one, but from what I recall NCIS ends up suspecting one of the Pegasus crew in a murder, and thus there ends up being all sorts of secret keeping that drives NCIS up the wall and John Shepperd being a pain in the ass because he kinda has to. Also, lots of amusement and banter and team awesomeness, too, as is true to both series.

White Collar
Our Dance Gave Allegiance by vain-glorious. Pre-series, mildly AU - in which Neil ends up stealing something he never, ever expected in the midst of one of his heists.

B-Team by ana-grrl. In which Simon, Kaylee, and Wash end up being the Big Damn Heroes this time around, with a little help from Jayne toward the end.

There you go, two months of fic recs. Even without the separate posts, writing all that up took way longer than I thought it would.

I *know* I've recced this before, but I cannot seem to find it in either my Memories or under my fic recs or sga tags. So, I link it again so this time I can do the smart thing and, you know, put it somewhere I can *find* it and stuff in the future.

Hockey Night on Atlantis by canadian snoopy, which is exactly as the title says - Shepperd and McKay (among others) combine forces to get Elizabeth to sanction an Atlantis Hockey Night, and it is good. Set first or second season, I think.

Went to Red Rock Canyon instead of Ring of Fire on Sunday, but I still took way too many pictures and spent a bunch of money that probably could've gone toward better, less frivolous uses, but whatever, I now have a new long sleeved t-shirt and a bunch of really pretty postcards that did a way better job of capturing the Red Rocked-ness of Red Rock Canyon than I ever could.

Also, on the way back from the park, we saw numerous signs warning of "Wild Burro/Big Horn Sheep Crossing", and we looked at them, looked at each other, and kind of shrugged because, okay, like deer crossing, only probably less likely. Three miles later, traffic was stopped by a trio of wild burros blocking the road, and they were quite content to stay right there until a police officer actually had to stop and chase them away. He also looked slightly amused and mildly resigned... I guess it happens often enough, especially when the tourist try and feed the beasts. Anyway, the whole ordeal caused myself and Cristin to bust out laughing, because seriously, WE WERE STOPPED BY A HERD OF WILD BURROS! Who'da thunk? (and yes, I do have pictures).

Yesterday it was brunch at IHOP and some SG marathoning (Urgo, Crystal Skull, The Storm, and Echos) before Cristin dropped me off at the air port and I was on my way back to Washington. Had a very awesome and lovely weekend with Cristin, saw a bit of Vegas, and didn't actually spend as much money as I thought I would, so yay for that!

Of course, now I have no one in the area to share my abject SG love with, and I am resigned to obsess over it all on my own again. ::dramatic sigh:: Also, slightly sleep deprived. Is it nap time yet?

Added another chapter to TwitterCaked. Because I am a geek and I always get ideas in the shower.

In other news, went to see RED and it was awesome. You just cannot go wrong with an all star cast, big freaking guns, and a plot that consists of "Who the fuck is trying to kill us!?" and not much else.

Then we went for dinner at Red Lobster and I ate too much and spent too much money, but now I have cheesecake for dinner.

And, lastly, I am currently watching Bandits on some random movie channel. All in all, I'd say it was a pretty good day.

I have written SGA Twitter Fic. And then I posted another part. And I don't even *USE* Twitter!

But still, hee! Having way too much fun writing this.

I wonder if a wireless signal would transfer through the Stargate. I mean, radio signals and stuff do, right? So if, for example, the SGC crew got creative and hooked up a wireless router (assuming they could even get internet 28 levels down, but I figure they at *least* have to be able to get email, right?) in the Gate room, would it in turn be able to shoot a wireless signal through the Stargate that would let any off world SG teams with lap tops - provided they were close enough to the gate to recieve the signal, of course - surf the internet from X-billion lightyears away?

Possible or not, I'm getting a kick out of the visual of some SG teammember watching YouTube on some other planet.

ETA August 7 - My speculation has led to SGA Twitter Fic. Because I am Just That Geeky. And I don't even *USE* Twitter!

Wow, a post every day for two whole weeks now. Will wonders never cease? It's probably been almost a year on that front. I suppose this is what happens when I suddenly find myself with an abundance of free time and I don't even have anything to procrastinate on.

And because of my abundance of free time, I start reading more fan fic, so the next few posts are going to be recommendations.

Displacement by [ profile] smilebackwards, a Stargate SG-1/Stargate Atlantis crossover that takes place at the SGC (mostly) after the SGA crew is booted out of Atlantis by the former owners in The Return. Shepperd is homesick and morose, but he gets by with a little help from his new friends. John isn't really sure how to feel about the fact that he seems to have been unofficially adopted by SG-1. It is both fluffy and slightly sad at the same time. I have no idea how the author pulled it off, but it works and I am totally going to go read it again now even though I still have more than 11 months until self-imposed "Don't reread for a year!" deadline is up. Yes, it really is that good.
rensong: (Independence Day)
Fake by [ profile] entangled_now. In which assumptions are made and taken advantage of. Also, "Great, fantastic, it's nice to know you'd whore me out for pudding!" is totally the best line ever.
rensong: (Stark - Bored Now)
Good Help is Hard to Find by Telanu. In which the two most ego-centric people in the world have the misfortune of meeting at a party. One of them does not enjoy it at all, the other is completely oblivious. Crossover with The Devil Wears Prada. *Totally* fluff, and funny to boot.
rensong: (Default)
Velocity Asymptotic by liketheriver. I can't remember entirely what happens in this one seeing as I probably read it about a month and a half ago. However, skimming through bits and pieces here and there I think John and Rodney have been trapped in some sort of time anomaly and keep jumping, without any control, from one time to another. Some periods are not as forgiving as others. Lots of John/Rodney friendship, and lots of action and adventure. Pretty long and plotty, too, which is always good.

So, I ran out of Laocoon's Children stories to reread. So I went in search of more fan fiction.

Missionary Position by [ profile] trinityofone. Using the author's summary: Um. Kind of what the Season 3 premiere would be like, if it were written by Douglas Adams. And he was on crack. Freaking hilarious.

In other news, I HAVE NEW EUREKA ON MY COMPUTER SCREEN!!!!!!!!! ::happy dances like woah::
rensong: (lesser species)
I just saw a link for a SGA John Sheppard/Todd the Wraith story that was rated NC-17. Eeeeeewwww.

I think I have found something that officially horrifies me more than the Power Rangers NC-17 story I saw linked years and years ago.

::goes to dust off her bottle of Psysol, which has gone unused since the heydays of the Farscape Shippers List::

Until Love Can Find Me by [ profile] isagel When you don't die in the desert, life goes on. Two words - Vegas Universe! And yeah, while I could do without the Sheppard/McKay smutty bits (because I actually *watch* the show and my brain is weird like that - as you all know quite well by this point), everything else is freaking awesome. The author even managed to capture the *feeling* from the episode, with the hazy light and the heat and the cut-to action shots I actually *saw* in my head - like it was a second half of the episode Vegas playing on a screen behind my eyeballs. Impressive, to say the least.

That said, there are three more stories in my "fic recs" folder, but I'm going to save those for the next dump.

Highly Classified and Very Hush Hush by rageprufrock.

This story has probably been recced in both the NCIS and SGA fandoms by everyone but me, and I have almost given in and read it at least five times myself, but just never have. Not because the summary sounded kinda blah and not worth it; far from it, actually - but because there is some sort of formatting error that causes my screen, at least, to have "“" in place of the actual quotation marks in the story, which seriously irritated me beyond belief, and I couldn't find a non-corrupted copy anywhere. So, yeah, I only just got around dealing with the annoyance and reading it because I'd seen it recced so much. And I gotta say, even with the annoying formatting error, it was totally worth it.

Anyway, to summarize - NCIS winds up getting getting assigned to take care of three very confused, very naked Marines who seem to appear out of thin air at a local mall. Guess who they work for? What follows is a extremely funny back-and-forth between the Gibbs and Sheppard, and of course it doesn't take long for it to delve into a competition of "Who Can Be The Biggest Smart-Ass".

Also, there is a sequel - Strictly on a Need To Know Basis where the reverse ends up happening for Gibbs' team - which, at least on this end, is blessedly “-free.

Okay, so I know I usually do one big fic rec dump all at once and then I'm good for another few weeks before the next, but Heteronormativity, Gender Construction and Nonverbal Signaling in Intercultural Communication: A Comedy by mad_maudlin is way too much fun to save until the next dump. I'm not even half way through it, but I don't care... This is the John Sheppard in Rod's reality, a geeky scientist who is convinced Teyla is trying to kill him with food. There is paranoia, peanut butter, and geekery all around. John and Lorne play D&D, people!

The moon they were surveying had extensive ruins and scenic valleys and a lavender gas giant that filled most of the sky with its gibbous eye, and John didn't get to enjoy any of it. Because Teyla was definitely watching him. Not, like, looming-staring, or anything-he caught her looking at the scenery a few times-but more often than not she was looking at him, sometimes right on, sometimes kind of sideways out of the corner of her eyes. Rod and Ronon didn't seem to notice anything funky about it, which just confirmed to John that Teyla was a superninja. They did, however, notice when John kept veering off-course, suddenly dropping altitude, or accidentally activating the cloak, because it turned out there was a trick willing yourself invisible while flying a mind-reading spaceship and John hadn't figured it out yet.

I don't think I've laughed out loud this much while reading a fic since my first read of Draco Malfoy, the Amazing Bouncing... Rat?
rensong: (not so far away)
Agent Afloat, Atlantis by Mhalachai. Enough fluff, bring on the long-and-plotty! And this is both. After the events of Judgment Day, Ziva finds herself reassigned to Atlantis. Her first order is to fix things, so she does.

I seriously don't know how to put into words a summary properly befitting this story, so I'm not even going to try. I will say that while there plenty of heartache, there is also no shortage of humor and moments that might even qualify as Warm And Fuzzy if we weren't talking about Ziva who probably would not appreciate being referred to as such. And OMG, LORNE! Just... LORNE! I didn't think it was possible, but this story totally convinced me he was even more awesome. And yes, I did Scrapbook it.

-.-. --- -. -. . -.-. - .. --- -. by Mad Maudlin. Now I'm just feeling lazy, so I'm stealing the authors summary for this one. An accident offworld leaves Rodney feeling disconnected from the world around him. Luckily John and his friends are there. Mostly fluffy, though there is actual plot in this one. (I know, I know, enough with the fluff, but seriously... I was going through a rough time and I needed the Warm And Fuzzy, okay?)
rensong: (not so far away)
Birds of a Feather by [ profile] julia_here. McKay and Benton as children growing up in Canada in places neither of them really belong. Adorable mostly kid fic - starts off when they're both children, but ends after both of the series finales.
rensong: (Independence Day)
Displacement by [ profile] michelel72. In which McKay finally gets some help saving the world thanks to one Donna Noble, Temp. It is another "fix" fic for the events of the Doctor Who season 4 finale that I'm still extremely ticked off about, so if that isn't you're thing, might want to pass this one up. I, however, loved this story.
rensong: (lesser species)
Next few entries are going to be a fic rec dump with no rhyme or reason. Starting with:

Four Blatant Lies About Atlantis (and One That's Totally True) by [ profile] sabinelagrande. Stealing the author's summary for this one. Wherein aliens don't make them do it, John loves ASCII, Carson hates everyone, Weir is highly amused, and Lorne's just trying to be a pal.. Fun, silly, and pretty much the anti-angst - even though I already knew what to expect when I reread some favorite parts, it still made me snicker like mad. I particularly liked the "chapter" in which the crew writes their own version of "Camp-town Ladies". John/Rodney

Random thought that entertained me through my Chem lecture:

If I had a Rodney McKay muse in my head, do you think he could help me with my Chemistry assignments?

In other news, thinking about doing another Girls Night now that a few more people actually have access to a computer, and also because we haven't done one in awhile. This time, though, I'm wondering if it might be possible to watch a TV show together instead of a movie. Not sure if it would work since a lot of us don't watch the same shows, but I suppose it would be an opportunity to try and convert people if nothing else.

Anyway, currently the shows I watch are Chuck, Castle, NCIS, Ghost Hunters (thank you Sci Fi Rewind!), Scrubs, and Bones. I also gave Better Off Ted a shot last week and it was entertaining, so I'll toss that one in there, too. I don't watch Heroes, Lost, or Pushing Daisies, but I'd be willing to watch an episode with a bunch of you just for the fun of it since I know a lot of people on my friends list watch them. Other series suggestions welcome, but I am kinda limited to broadcast channels cause I only get channels 1 through 14 (aka, basic cable). As long as you can get access to them online, though, I should be good.

So, what do you all think? Worth a shot?
rensong: (lesser species)
Last night was one of those nights that your brain just does not want to turn off. I got maybe two hours of sleep, and I'm not entirely sure if I was actually sleeping to doing that kind of doze/zone thing, but whatever, it did lead to some interesting dreams.

cutting cause this gets long )

So, yes... That was last night's episode of Cracktastic Subconscious Fic. As cracktastic brain fic goes, I gotta say, that one might be one of my new favorites.

On an entirely different (and possibly TMI) note, it seems that I am extremely sex minded today. Part of last night's Brain Not Turning Off was the continuous visions of boys *and* girls running through my head and all the stuff they can do with their fingers.
rensong: (Independence Day)
Holy. Fuck.

The episode is over and I still want to scream those exact words. Holy Freaking Fuck.

(the good kind of Holy Fucking)

(... I wonder how one would go about Holy Fucking. All that comes to mind is angels. Or, you know, God/Lucifer)

That is all.

I've been watching the SG Atlantis marathons these last few days, catching up on episodes I missed and rewatching favorites.

And I gotta say, as much fun as vegging out in front of SGA all day is, it's also extremely depressing. When SG1 ended, I was okay with it, cause it had a 10 year run *and* two additional movies (which I haven't seen yet), and it was awesome while it lasted but it was time for it to go. People weren't saying "why didn't this end years ago" yet, but I had a feeling it wouldn't have been long before they were.

With Atlantis, though, I'm still going "but they could be doing so much more!" Granted, this last season hasn't been fantastic, but SG1 had it's bad seasons and then managed to bring it back to par, and there have been some *awesome* episodes in between all the not so awesome ones. All these previews for "The SERIES FINALE of Stargate Atlantis" this Friday are just depressing. I won't have an Stargate to watch anymore (cause I am not touching Stargate Universe unless I hear some *very* good things about it). It truly is the end of an era. ::sighs::

Hopefully it will go out with a bang, though. With everyone I like still alive. Hopefully.
